Spy photographers have spotted a new Triumph Rocket III, which made it possible to reveal significant changes to the giant British cruiser. The current Rocket III has beenproduced since 2004, and is now available only in the United States. The bike was dropped in Europe due to Euro4 restrictions.The motorcycle in the photos looksclose to being production ready.

Rumors of a new Rocket IIIemerged in the fall after Triumph’s dealer meeting, which also leaked data aboutthe new Scrambler 1200 and Speed Twin.According to various sources, a prototype Rocket III was ridden on stage during the meeting, as well as sketchesof the future novelty were showcased. The spied test model fully matches the design sketch and makes it possible to see both sides of the bike.

Externally, the engine looks similar to the old inline-Three. It is expected to have been completely updated, and the working volume willincrease from the previous 2294cc to closer to 2500cc.The new engine will pass both Euro 4 requirements and the even stricter Euro 5 regulations which will enter into force in 2020. Helping on this front is the new exhaust system3-1-3, with two silencers on the right side and a third on the left, like the 2004 model, but with long pipes.

Thanks to the short exhaust,it is clearly visible that the motorcycle will remain shaft driven,but now with the drive shaft hidden inside a single-sided swingarm.Accordingly, the rear shocks now consist of a linked monoshock located beneath the seat.From the rear views, we can see a stubby tail with an integrated rear brake light. The rear turn signals are mounted to a tire-hugging combination fender and license plate holder.

Unlike most European manufacturers, Triumphdoes not try to keep its new product announcements for the big motorcycle shows, so we can expect the new 2020 Rocket III to be announced in several monthsinstead of being held for the EICMA or another major show.
