The Gold Wing Road Riders Association's 42nd annual "Wing Ding" convention is expected to bring thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to the city. The event is scheduled for June 30 to July 4, 2020 at the University Plaza Hotel. The convention was announced by The Convention Visitors Bureau, the city’s nonprofit destination marketing organization that led the effort to bring the group to the city.
The last time this event was in Springfield in 1999 with a record number of people attended. That July became one of the best months for hotel bookings in the city.
As Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Tracy Kimberlin said, “The city loved this event in 1999 and the people that came with it, and I know they're going to love it again in 2020”.
According to Tracy, between 7,000 and 10,000 people will be attending the “Wing Ding”convention, and they are expected to spend about $2 million while here. Plus Honda Gold Wing fans also will be in the city during the Independence Day holiday, typically a slow time for Springfield hotels. Kimberlin also expected the city to close off St. Louis Street because of the amount of motorcycle parking space needed.
With the great hospitality and venues in Springfield and the great riding opportunities in the surrounding areas, this city was always at the top of the list for the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
